Mayor of Manchester Congratulates 3aaa Apprentice, Alex Burns

3aaa Apprentice, Alex Burns is the first person in England to complete the new BCS Level 4 Network Engineering standard, achieving a distinction.

Alex was greeted by the Mayor of Greater Manchester, Andy Burnham at the Smarter Business Tech Live event, which was held in Manchester on 15th and 16th November 2017.

“We want Manchester to be a smart city that connects industrial needs with social ones,” said Andy Burnham, Mayor of Greater Manchester.

Alex began his Apprenticeship journey with the 3aaa Liverpool academy over a year ago. With the support of our industry experts, Alex completed his IT Level 3 Apprenticeship and then became one of the first Apprentices in the country to enrol on the BCS Network Engineer Apprenticeship.

Alex spoke about his experience of meeting the mayor of Greater Manchester;

“It was an honour to meet Andy Burnham at the Manchester event and to receive my certificate from him. It was also great to meet John Pritchard, Jez Brooks and the BCS team, who are doing great things for future Apprentices.”

Alex spoke about why he is thankful for his Apprenticeship;

“Leaving school with no GCSEs and to then reach this level in my career is all down to hard work and positive thinking! 3aaa gave me an opportunity and I wanted to make them proud by becoming the first Network Engineer!”

John Pritchard, Head of Apprenticeships, BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT said, “Alex should be very proud of his achievements and for becoming the first Digital Apprentice to complete with BCS. Training provider 3aaa Apprenticeships should also be commended, for their support of Alex and for training him to achieve such a high standard. “

Alex is an exemplary 3aaa Apprentice. He has used his Apprenticeships as the foundation to build his own career in Network Engineering. 3aaa believe in providing life-changing opportunities to those who wish to start, or develop, a career in a technology or professional services discipline.

“I’m extremely proud to represent 3aaa and BCS, the chartered institute for IT to become the first in the UK to complete the Digital Standards in Network Engineering, gaining a

Distinction. 3aaa have given me amazing support since my interview back in 2014, helping me overcome my learning difficulties, dyslexia and dyscalculia,” said Alex.

We are continuing to support outstanding individuals across the country, giving them the opportunities to build a career in a profession they enjoy.
