The Apprenticeship Levy Explained

What is the Apprenticeship Levy?

The Apprenticeship Levy is a new government scheme that aims to not only create 3 million more Apprenticeships by 2020 but to upskill the business needs of all organisations across the UK. The levy will come into effect in April 2017 with companies seeing their first payment being taken in May 2017. The Apprenticeship Levy will affect organisations who have an annual payroll of more than £3million. If your organisation falls into this category, you will pay the Levy whether you already employ Apprentices or not.

All employers, whether they are Levy paying or not, will be financially supported by the government with regards to Apprenticeship training. The levy that you pay will be used to finance a new digital account, where you can use vouchers to train existing staff or new recruits through Apprenticeships.

No matter what your Apprenticeship Levy contribution is, 3aaa Apprenticeships can help you manage your Apprenticeship training requirements.

Who are 3aaa Apprenticeships?

At 3aaa Apprenticeships, we ensure quality is at the heart of everything we do. Our training and assessment is quality assured by OFSTED. We are one of only five private providers in the past two years to have been given a Grade 1 OUTSTANDING status for our training and staff development. We have high quality curriculum teams that have significant industry expertise as well as a large portfolio of Apprenticeship Standards ranging from Level 2 to Level 7. Our aim is to ensure that we provide young people and employers with life changing employment opportunities and provide only the best teaching, learning and assessment.

So how can we help?

Our Levy Management team consists of educational and business development professionals that can help your organisation benefit from the Apprenticeship Levy. Not only can we support you with the understanding of the Apprenticeship Levy and Apprenticeships but they will work with you every step of the way of your Apprenticeship Levy journey.

We understand that one of the hardest parts of developing a strategy for the Levy is selling the strategy to you senior manager and board. The 3aaa Apprenticeship Levy management team can help you to develop your organisations learning and development offer and help you to communicate the benefits of the new offer.

Not only can we support you with creating and presenting your strategy but we also provide a free Business Needs Analysis, using an objective ROADS process, to determine where your skills shortages and opportunities are within your workforce. The team will create the right training requirements with you to fulfill these needs, ensuring that your Apprenticeship Levy funds are fully utilised. Once the Business Needs Analysis has been completed by one of our team, you will be able to fully allocate your Levy spend to where it is needed within the organisation.

Allocating your Apprenticeship Levy spend

Once we have worked with you to better understand what your business requires from an Applicant, we provide you with a free recruitment service where our Levy Management team advertise, screen and refer candidates to you for interview. We pride ourselves on finding the perfect Apprentices for your business to ensure a productive and motivated workforce.

How to recruit an Apprentice

All potential Apprentices apply to work with us through Apprentice Career. Apprentice Career is an online job engine that allows young people to see all the Apprenticeship vacancies available right now.

It was established in 2016 and the portal has had more than ½ million hits over the past four months. Potential applicants simply sign up to the website and will then be contacted by 3aaa Apprenticeships to help them apply for their dream Apprenticeship.

Next, they go through an initial interview process with our team before they are referred to you, ensuring all our applicants are of a high calibre and suit your business needs.

Once you have found your perfect Apprentice (or Apprentices, depending on your Levy spend) after your own interview process, someone from our Levy team will then meet with you again to complete the final contracts and to ensure your work environment meets health and safety regulations. After that the process is complete, it’s as easy as that.

Throughout the Apprenticeship your Apprentice will attend academy days at your local 3aaa Apprenticeship Academy alongside assessor visits to your workplace, ensuring that everything is running smoothly.

What about existing staff?

As well as recruiting new staff, the Apprenticeship Levy allows you to upskill your current work force by putting these staff on a training programme that fits your business needs. The new Government reform of Apprenticeships means that anyone regardless of age or previous qualification is eligible to become an Apprentice as of April 2017.

Choosing to upskill your current workforce, with Apprenticeships that go up to Level 7, instead of hiring new Apprentices can not only improve your work force motivation but will also ensure that your employees are progressing throughout their career.

We understand that many employers want the opportunity to progress their current employees and Management Apprenticeships have been at the top of that agenda. So with this in mind, we have created a new Apprenticeship programme that provides your employees with the relevant management and leadership skills for your organisation.

The Pathway To Management

This course has been tailored around the needs of employers, enhancing the talent of their current employees to become the managers of the future. On this pathway we will focus on the following aspects:

–              Interpersonal excellence

–              Organisational performance

–              Personal effectiveness

The Management Pathway will have regular on-programme assessment where the individuals will be developing a portfolio of competence and will gain an industry recognised qualification. The employer and training provider will agree that the employee meets requirements of the standard and then this will lead to the end point assessment. Successful individuals will gain an industry designed Apprenticeship, an industry recognised qualification and the option for professional registration with a professional body.
