West Midlands lead the way with Apprenticeships

As it is National Apprenticeship Week, 3aaa Apprenticeships are highlighting the success of Apprenticeships and training across the UK. In a recent survey published in the Birmingham Mail, employment opportunities for Business and Administration professionals in Birmingham and surrounding areas are rapidly expanding, meaning the West Midlands is leading the way when it comes to Apprenticeships.

Business and Administration

A total of 10,620 people completed their Apprenticeship Programme in Birmingham in 2015/16, including 3,270 young adults who undertook Business and Administration training, which is noticeably more popular in the West Midlands compared to the rest of the UK. These incredible statistics mean Business and Administration Apprenticeships accounted for one in three of all those undertaken in the city.

Manufacturing Technologies

The West Midlands also provides a higher quantity of training in the Manufacturing Industry compared to other places across England. In 2015/2016, a total of 1,850 people studied in manufacturing technologies in Birmingham which equates to 17% of all manufacturing Apprenticeships across the UK.

Retail Sector

Surpirsingly, Birmingham provided training to a smaller amount of people in the retail sector than the rest of the country. Although Retail is a popular industry for Apprenticeships in England, with 17% choosing this career path, 1,500 people (14%) within the city chose to study an Apprenticeship in this sector.

A total of 509,400 individuals completed Apprenticeship training throughout 2015/2016, which has stayed stable since 2012-2013, when the number was 510,200. With the Apprenticeship Levy arriving in less than a month, it is expected that this number will increase significantly.
